Two Good Debates

In the last couple of months there have been two important debates that need to be watched, or specifically listened to as I believe only the audio is available.  The first is between two Catholic apologists and the second one is between a Catholic and an atheist libertarian.

Trent Horn vs. Timothy Gordon on the Death Penalty

Catholic Answers elite apologist Trent Horn recently debated Timothy Gordon on the death penalty.  I can’t find the YouTube video but Trent Horn has it on his podcast The Counsel of Trent.  The podcast is episode #226 which was released on October 25.

I’m going to give a little spoiler here.  Trent Horn got smashed.  The debate was civil in that both debaters were calm and treated each other with respect.  However, all of the points were scored by one side.  Gordon showed Horn that Pope Francis in his statements only tackles one secondary argument in favor of the death penalty.  The primary argument plus numerous others are completely ignored.

I hate to say this but this debate really shows the current state of Catholic Answers.  Defending the Catholic Faith isn’t defending questionable statements of a Pope.  If Catholic Answers existed in the 630’s they’d probably try to defend Pope Honorius and his statements to Patriarch Sergius about Jesus Christ having only one will.  Catholic Answers does some good work but like so many opponents of the Church they have a misunderstanding of Papal Infallibility.  There hasn’t been an infallible statement for decades and non-infallible statements can be as erroneous as any of our comments.

Please pray for Catholic Answers.  There is hope for them as they do maintain a lot of orthodoxy.  They certainly aren’t National Catholic Reporter or America Magazine.

Dr. E. Michael Jones vs. Styxhexenhammer666 on Banning Porn

This debate is a debate between a Catholic and a blaspheming libertarian.  Libertarian philosophy will be the death of western civilization and Styx does a good job of showing how hollow his own philosophy really is.  This man mocked St. Augustine and gave a purely American argument for porn being legal.  Personally I’m not impressed with libertarianism in the slightest.  I hope that all Catholics(and non-Catholics for that matter) jettison this worthless philosophy.
