Michael Coren, How Many Priests Were Actually Indicted in the Grand Jury Report?

Several years ago when Michael Coren left the Catholic Church to become an Anglican for collapsing on the issue of sodomy, he would talk about how he still respected the Catholic Church but had almost lost his faith so he had to become and Anglican.  At times he actually said he was still a Catholic but worshipped in the Anglican communion.  I actually believed that he still respected the Church.  Shame on me.

The truth is that Michael Coren hates the faith he once embraced and defended in publications and I’m going to prove it right now.  Anytime Catholics try to talk about their views on sexuality he usually brings up sex scandals to discredit them.  Of course now he just brings up the Pennsylvania Grand Jury report like a giddy schoolgirl.  Coren’s recent article can be found here:

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/article-prayers-arent-enough-to-end-child-sex-abuse-in-the-catholic-church/

Here are some quotes from his article:

“Internal documents from six Catholic dioceses in Pennsylvania reveal that more than “300 predator priests have been credibly accused” of sexually abusing more than 1,000 children.”

Coren gives three solutions to this problem:

“A solution would be to ordain married men and to allow gay clergy to be open and honest.”

“Second is the extraordinary patriarchy that exists within the church. Women are not ordained, have very little influence and are excluded from decisions. While the presence of women doesn’t make abuse impossible, it certainly reduces the likelihood.”

“Third is the rigid sense of authority that permeates the church, even under more liberal-minded pontiffs. This is still a clerical church, and until it is democratized, closed circles of secrecy will be formed whenever leadership is challenged.”

So Coren’s solution is married and openly homosexual clergy, the ordaining of women, and turning the church into a democracy.  What are the grounds for saying this?  He’s a leftist, but he’ll happily bring up the report and the fact that over 300 priests have been “credibly accused”.  Not indicted but credibly accused.  Now at the end of the day, these are accusations.  The report does say “credibly” but this word is subjective.  How credible are they?  Well, let’s look at the amount of indictments.  The Grand Jury report reads:

“This grand jury has issued presentments against a priest in the Greensburg diocese and a priest in the Erie Diocese, who has been sexually assaulting children within the last decade.  We learned of these abusers directly from their dioceses – which we hope is a sign that the church is finally changing its ways.  And there may be more indictments in the future; investigation continues.”

Two indictments.  Two.  That’s right, two.  We constantly hear that over 300 priests have been “credibly accused” and the fact that the number of victims is in the thousands.  Why not the fact that there were only two indictments?  It’s because the media hates the Church and so does Michael Coren.  Michael Coren thinks we should bow to his new radical leftist agenda because of two indictments.  Now in Coren’s defence, he wasn’t the only one who didn’t report the two indictments but he does pretend to respect the Catholic Church.  Two indictments Michael, shame on you.

I personally don’t care if the media mentions the fact that over 300 priests have been accused of these crimes, because they were.  However, if they don’t mention the fact that there were only two indictments, they’re being dishonest and deceptive.

Ah the usual sophistry from what passes these days as the liberal left. There is rather more credibility in his statement regarding the “rigid sense of authority that permeates the church…”. It’s hard to believe that a clever man like that can be so shallow.

I hope I can keep on topic here and remain coherent because I am a rather angry, but the Catholic Church is facing a crisis – a long delayed one – regarding sinful behaviour amongst its clergy. There is a lot going on in the news about this at the moment, and rather a lot of it appears to be justified. It appears that Benedict could not enforce his will in sorting out this matter and the Lord only knows what Francis is up to.

The issue is not frustrated priests but one of homosexuals exploiting their positions of authority and trust.

The news is not good. Things have to change.

What is the Pope’s solution so far? No he’s not going to root out the perpetrators and de-frock and excommunicate them – no not at all, we all have to pray and fast. All of us, including the laity. Francis is not a reformer, nor a pope, he’s a fraud.

Personally I think that the priesthood should be open to married men, but to suggest that this would reduce the sexual abuse of children etc. is just plain stupid. Centuries ago we had a Counter Reformation to save the Church, we need something similar now. We have had five years of the most ignorant Jesuit I have seen occupying the papacy and he has achieved nothing of real value?

I am off to Rome next week and if it were any other pope I would have arranged an audience. Definitely won’t be doing that for this one. I won’t even be in St Peter’s Square to listen to him.

    • Hi Christopher,

These last 24 hours have been devastating for Pope Francis. The secular leftist media won’t know what to do. They hate the Catholic Church but the one guy they like was caught with his hand in the cookie jar. What do they do? It’s kind of funny actually.

To this day I don’t know why Pope Benedict resigned but these last five years have been a disaster.

Have fun in Rome. It’s a good time.

      God bless,

      Allan
