In 2015 the movie Spotlight came out. It was such a hit that it ended up taking best picture at the Academy Awards in February 2016. It was certainly a controversial movie as it dealt with a sensitive subject which was homosexual priests raping children and an entire system covering it up. This system included bishops, priests, lawyers, and others.

Michael Coren’s God

Believe it or not, I don’t like writing about Michael Coren. I’d rather be talking about something else but he’s the gift who keeps on giving. On and on he goes. He loves to wear his clerical collar and boy does he look smugger than ever. He was “ordained” by a lady named Susan Bell. Susan Bell is a member of the Anglican Church of Canada who calls herself a bishop. There is no such thing as a female bishop. Her ordination is just as bogus as the one she gave to Coren.

I hope that everyone is having a good day as we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. It’s certainly an important day. I tend not to like the Christmas season because the materialism forces all of November and December to revolve around this one holy day.
Pope Francis and the “Migration” Issue

Here is a Tweet from the Pope from a couple of days ago. It’s a very sloppy Tweet with bad theology. There is no such thing as the “city of God and man”. St. Augustine tells us about the City of God and contrasts it with the City of Man. This is just sloppy theology from the Pope here.
Coren, Ashenden, England, and France

About a month or two ago, the former Catholic Michael Coren received ordination as a “deacon” in the Anglican Church. He loves to wear his clerical collar and simply can’t stop talking about it. On the other hand, the Queen’s former chaplain Gavin Ashenden is being received into the Catholic Church on the fourth Sunday of Advent. The Anglican Church got Michael Coren and the Catholic Church got Gavin Ashenden. I’d say that the Catholics won this swap hands down.
Muhammad vs. Photios on Oral Tradition

Both the Catholic and Orthodox Church have been debating an issue called the Filioque for centuries. Basically the Orthodox Church claims that the Catholic Church has innovated in saying that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son(Filioque in Latin). This caused a small controversy in the 7th century but erupted in the 9th century with a guy named Photios of Constantinople. Today the Orthodox Church reveres him as a Saint and Pillar of Orthodoxy while the Catholic Church doesn’t think much of him. Photios wrote a book called Mystagogy of the Holy Spirit which argues against the Filioque doctrine.
LDS, Muslims and the Latin Mass

In the morning I had to take care of some business downtown. When I was finished I was walking back and noticed some LDS missionaries. Downtown is pretty empty on the weekends so when I saw them I knew that I’d be able to get a conversation going.
The Impressive Venerable Bede

I love English Catholicism. The writings of Aelred of Rievaulx have always been spiritually comforting. However, English Catholicism predates him by centuries. I had read some of the commentaries of Venerable Bede before but reading his Ecclesiastical History of the English People was a true delight.
Questions Starting With Arius

A friend of mine called me up during the week. He was coming to Calgary for a conference and his accommodation plans fell through so he asked if he could stay in my spare bedroom. His plans were to arrive Thursday evening and leave Sunday morning. That gave us three evenings together.
