Enemies of the holy Trinity, mainly Muslims, have employed John 20:17 in their attempted refutation of the Trinity. What does John 20:17 really say? Here is the verse:
Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”
Taylor Marshall’s book Infiltration is tearing it up. He’s appeared on many podcasts for interviews and the book is making the rounds. Not long ago I published a review of the book. While I certainly enjoyed the book, it kept me wanting more. It seemed that every chapter was only scraping the surface. So much more could have been written and I’m sure Taylor Marshall could have done more if he wanted.
About a month ago, Islamic apologist Paul Williams debated Greek Orthodox scholar and philosophical expert Jay Dyer. The topic was the deity of Christ, which is a common topic discussed between Christians and Muslims. I’ve never seen Dyer debate a Muslim before. Perhaps he has but I’ve never seen it. He dialogues a lot with Catholics on issues like Absolute Divine Simplicity and uncreated grace.
When one studies 2,000 years of church history, there will certainly be a lot of heretics and heresies. Many Fathers and Doctors of the Church have written collections of polemics against the multiple heretical groups of the day. For example, we have Irenaeus of Lyons, Epiphanius of Salamis, and John of Damascus just to name a few. They’ve all written collections of polemics against certain heresies. Other saints have written extensively against one or a couple different heresies. Saint Augustine is a good example with his works against the Donatists and the Pelagians.
I follow several Protestant blogs. Some of them are quite anti-Catholic, including one called Triablogue which seems to be run by a guy named Steve. Now, of the anti-Catholic Protestants blogs out there, they all seem to attack the Church from different angles. Steve seems to like to constantly beat the drum of modernism in the church. With Taylor Marshall’s book out(which I reviewed on my last post), he naturally used this as an opportunity to bring up the liberal and sodomite control of large portions of the Church.
Most members of the Church know that many things are wrong in the Catholic Church. For most of the Church’s history, her enemies have been on the outside. Now they’re on the inside and Taylor Marshall exposes this in his new book Infiltration: The Plot to Destroy the Church from Within. The Forward is done by Bishop Athanasius Schneider. He writes: Taylor Marshall touches on a topic that is deliberately ignored today. The issue of a possible infiltration of the Church by forces outside her does not fit into the optimistic picture that Pope John XXIII and particularly the Second Vatican Council unrealistically and uncritically drew of the modern world.
The Quran – The Holy Book of the Islamic Faith
As any student of Islam knows, the Quran denies that Jesus Christ is the Son of God or divine in any way. There is no secret about that in the slightest. In fact, this belief of Jesus being the Son of God is so horrific that it’s the justification for Jihad in Surah 9:29.
The book that I’m currently finishing off is called The Crisis of Civilization by the great 20th century Catholic writer Hilaire Belloc. I’ve read a few books of his before. In fact, in my recommended reading list, I have his book How the Reformation Happened. This book has a similar theme, but there is something more.
As someone who specializes in church history, there are two events that I focus my attention on. The rise of Protestantism and the rise of Islam. The Greek-Latin(Sometimes called East-West Schism though I refuse to call it that) separation is interesting but I think the reasons why it happened are pretty clear. What caused Islam? What caused Protestantism? In this post I will be discussing Protestantism, specifically Martin Luther.
