An Analysis Of The LGBT Movement

Seven? Seriously?

Seven Letters? Seriously?

We’ve heard a lot about the LGBT movement in the news over the last several years. From civil unions to homosexual marriages to Caitlyn Jenner, it has dominated the media for a long time. Everyone has heard of this movement but few have actually investigated the banner with which they define themselves.

We need to ask ourselves where this movement comes from. The L and the G are simply Lesbian and Gay. Obviously they want to get married to members of the same sex. These two groups are almost identical in everything except sex. The similarities end here however as we analyze our last two groups.

The B stands for Bisexual. A bisexual is one that is attracted to members of both sexes. I fail to see how these people are persecuted since they have always had the same rights as straight people and that is the right to marry members of the opposite sex. A bisexual in the 1950’s would have just married someone of the opposite sex and thought nothing of it. Also, there are no spokespersons for bisexual rights whereas there are many for gay rights. The adding of the B to the already existing LG is a canard and is used to intimidate people. After all, the more letters you have the more organized it sounds.

At last we come to the T, which stands for transgendered. Here is where it really gets dicey. What does a transgendered person have in common with a homosexual? The answer to this is absolutely nothing.

When Bruce Jenner became Caitlyn Jenner he changed his identity and is now a woman. Caitlyn Jenner is a woman and that should be the end of it. Forget this transgender stuff, he’s a woman now!

This movement is made up of a strange combination. Could you imagine a political party that consisted of liberal, libertarian and communist policies. It makes absolutely no sense at all. Unless of course you realize that there are higher forces at work here.

As I’ve pointed out in a previous post, Matthew 19 provides the norm for Christians. In that Chapter, Jesus draws on the Creation narrative and references two verses. Verses 4 and 5 from Matthew 19 read as follows:

Who answering, said to them: Have ye not read, that he who made man from the beginning, Made them male and female? And he said: For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they two shall be in one flesh.

The two verses alluded to are Genesis 1:27 and 2:24. These serve as the foundation for marriage and sexual identity in the Christian faith.

To conclude, these movements joined forces because they all have on thing in common. Even though they are completely different, they all deviate from the sexual norm that Christ taught. They probably also realize that together they can get a lot more done than if they fight individually. In fact, I’ve seen more letters added to the ensemble to make for an even longer acronym. At a bookstore I saw LGBTQIA as the sign for a section of books.

Regardless of this movement, we as Christians need to cling to Matthew 19. The wisdom of Christ is to be adhered to and not the wisdom of the world, especially the western world in the 21st century which is becoming more foolish by the day.
