Which Injeel is Spoken of in Surah 5:68?

The Quran – The Holy Book of the Islamic Faith

Muslims seem to have a love-hate relationship with the previous revelations of God.  The Quran on the other hand loves the previous scriptures and encourages the Christians and Jews of the day to follow them.  This is a large amount of evidence in favour of my theory that the religion of the Quran and Islam are two different religions.

Surah 5:68 reads as follows:

Say, “O People of the Scripture! You have no basis until you uphold the Torah, and the Gospel, and what is revealed to you from your Lord.” But what is revealed to you from your Lord will increase many of them in rebellion and disbelief, so do not be sorry for the disbelieving people.

This is Allah telling Muhammad what to tell the people of the book.  Now modern day Muslims believe in two Torahs and two Gospels.  There is the Torah that was revealed to Moses and forgotten instantly.  There is the Gospel that was revealed to Jesus and forgotten instantly.  In addition to being forgotten, they were forgotten about.  No one knew about them and there isn’t a historical trace of them.

The other Torah and Gospel are the ones that the Jews and Christians possess today.  It’s also the identical ones that Muhammad’s opponents would have had in their possession.  It’s the only one that the Christians and Jews would have known about in the 7th century.  Which ones are spoken of in Surah 5:68?

Now, if the Islamic theory about the original Torah and Gospel being revealed and forgotten about is true, then Muhammad and Allah would have known about it.  The Christians and the Jews would have had no clue about what it was.  Remember that Allah is getting Muhammad to say this to the people of the book.  What are the Torah and Gospel that the people of the book know?  It’s the one in their possession.

This means that the Christians are bound to believe in everything contained in the canonical Gospels since that’s what the 7th century Christians possessed.  The only way that Allah would say to follow the Gospel is if it contains true teaching.  If it contains true teaching that means that Muslims have to accept them in their entirety.  If they fall back to liberal scholars, then they’re choosing liberal scholarship over the Quran.

Because of this analysis and conclusion, Muslims are required to believe in what is taught in the following verses:

For the Son of man also came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

– Mark 10:45

for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of man will be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him; and when he is killed, after three days he will rise.”

– Mark 9:31

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

– Matthew 28:19

Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.”

– John 8:58

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

– John 10:11

and now, Father, glorify thou me in thy own presence with the glory which I had with thee before the world was made.

– John 17:5

A Muslim and a Christian are required to believe all of this and more according to the Quran.  Christians certainly do but Muslims won’t because it contradicts the Quran, yet Surah 5:68 from the Quran gives it authority.  I wouldn’t want this dilemma.

  1. What is the second half of 5:68 all about? “… But what is revealed to you from your Lord will increase many of them in rebellion and disbelief, so do not be sorry for the disbelieving people”.

I wonder. Is that their get out clause? This needs to be investigated.

One other thing. The Koran mentions the Torah and the Gospel yet it does not quote nor refer directly to either of these Scriptures. How then can it claim to be a further revelation from (the same) God. Furthermore how can it claim to be an Abrahamic religion?

Yet again, how can the Roman Catholic Church claim that Muslims are brothers in faith?

I can accept that Muslims have righteous desire in seeking the One True God, but it is clear that they are deceived. That must be from the great Deceiver, the Greatest of Deceivers no less.

    • Hi Christopher,

They can’t use that as a get out clause. That just says that Christians and Jews have interpreted it wrongly and their religions are false. However, still good enough to get salvation according to the next verse. What a deal!

You’re correct though. I don’t believe it to be Abrahamic.

They are deceived. It’s really good to know the Quran when doing this so you can point them in the right direction. Muslims respect you if you know their sources. Some will anyway.

      God bless,

      Allan
