Interview With Derya Little

On Thursday I had an interview with ex-Muslim turned Catholic Derya Little.  There are a few reasons why I wanted to interview Little.  The first was that I really enjoyed her book From Islam to Christ.  I reviewed the book some time ago on this website.

Book Review: From Islam to Christ by Derya Little

Another reason that I wanted to interview Little is to show the anti-Christian character of Turkey.  The Ottoman Empire is long gone and Turkey has secularized to a large extent but this isn’t like secularism in America or Western Europe where other religions are tolerated more.  Quite the opposite in fact.  Secular Turkish nationalism is extremely anti-Christian.  While a Turk is legally allowed to change his religion from Islam to Christianity, there will be extremely nasty social consequences.  If you go back 200 years ago there were a lot of Christian minorities in the last days of the Ottoman Empire.  These were Christians of Greek, Armenian, and Assyrian background.  The Ottomans had stolen their grand churches, converted them into mosques then put them into ghettos, and taxed them at a steep rate.  As bad as this was, they were still allowed to live in Muslim land and practice their faith.  Not true with the secular Turkish nationalists who either expelled them in the case of the Greeks or mass murdered them in the case of the Armenians.

The last reason is that I like Turkish people.  I knew many Turks in university including a graduate student who was also named Derya.  Many of my professors were also Turkish.  Not one of them was religious.  They didn’t even fast for Ramadan.  I remember seeing one of my professors eating his lunch during Ramadan.  I’ve noticed with Muslims that different ones from different countries retain their faith when they leave their homelands.  Turks and Persians completely lose their faith.  Arabs are hit and miss.  Pakistani Muslims really seem to carry their faith when they move to the West.  I don’t know why that is.  However, all of these people need the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

At the end of this interview Derya Little says to not be afraid of asking questions.  Muslims need to ask questions about Muhammad and the religion he founded.  I believe that the best word to describe Muhammad is “confused”.  He thought that he was a prophet, but in reality there is little resemblance to what preceded him in the Old and New Testaments.  This is why Muslims reject the Torah and the Gospel while the Quran confirms them.

Thank you Derya Little for this great interview.

  1. Sadly if she left islam to go into some denomination like roman catholicism the book should have been called from the frying pan into the fire. if she on the other hand has decided to rightly divide the word of truth as comanded by God and has believed the Gospel of the mystery Romans 15 v 26 as found in 1 corinthians 15 v 1-4 and ephesians 1 v 13 then there is one more saved person in heaven if not then she is just another deceived lost soul.

The dispensational bible institute is a wonderful resource of truth.

      • Hello Allan I have no problem with you at all I like you and admire your efforts to defend something you are very passionate about it is very commendable and admirable. That said you are defending something that is dangerous and leading untold people into hell.

I am a right dividing bible believer and if you have a website that will promote something that the bible does not agree with then you must expect replies like mine. Whether you decide to post them is up to you but as long as i get e mails from you i will respond. If you are truly open minded you should listen to the mp3 offering on the history of dispensationalism on dispensational bible institute its about 1 hour and if you have issues with what they say i am happy to eat humble pie. They talk all about the church fathers so some may be new to you and some not so.

        • Hey, there is no shortage of my theological opponents who comment on this page. It’s all good.

Can you provide a link to this lecture?

Also, if you read Derya’s book she goes into detail about why she chose Catholicism over Protestantism.

          • Hello Allan just google dispensational bible institute go to the mp3 section and look at history. I am not a protestant i am a Pauline believer in that i believe that the only gospel that saves a human being is the Gospel of the mystery Romans 15 v 26 given to the apostle of the gentiles Paul by the risen and ascended Christ and is found in 1 Corinthians 15 v 1-4 and Ephesians 1 v 13. Paul was the first saved man and is the model for salvation and that all the bible is FOR us gentiles but not all the bible is TOO us. Our scripture is found in the Pauline epistles and everything else is for the jews.

Sadly at this time the only study i like refers to dispensational bible studies. It is my age i have limited intellectual resources left for reading. I was brought up a nominal church of England person which as dead a religion as all of them. Thank you anyway
