St. John of Damascus vs The Quran

The Writings of St. John of Damascus

The Writings of St. John of Damascus

One of my favorite Church Fathers to read is St. John of Damascus. He is a saint and one of three dozen Doctors of the Church, which means that his writings are held in very high regard. He was an Arab born in Damascus in 675 and he became a monk in the Mar Saba monastery in the Holy Land. He was ordained a priest in the last years of his life. He is known for his writings on theology and polemics against heretical movements.  St. john is also known for his extensive writings on the Assumption of Mary and is referred to as the Doctor of the Assumption.  He died in 750.

Three Tips for Dialoguing With Muslims

Almost every Western country has a significant Muslim population. According to a survey conducted in 2011, the city in which I live is over 5% Muslim. The city in which I was born has the third oldest mosque on the continent. There is also a mosque about a two minute walk from where I live. Needless to say, Islam is in the West.

A Challenge to Islamic Apologists

Muslims and Christians both believe in Jesus Christ. We both believe He is the Messiah and born of the Virgin Mary. The two biggest differences are his divinity and the crucifixion. Muslims claim that he didn’t die based on the Quran.

In being an effective debater you need two things. You need proper debating tactics and you need information. Information comes with time and reading but if you never master the proper debating tactics, it’s almost uselss. The key to debating is not to defeat your opponent but to let your opponent defeat himself. This is done by asking the right questions.

Sharia, The West, And The Christian Faith

A few years ago, I watched this debate between David Wood and Anjem Choudary. The topic of the debate is: “Would Sharia Help the West?” Sadly, David Wood took the wrong approach. Attacking Sharia is good but then when he went about defending how things are in the West I shook my head.
