The Abortion Holocaust

One of the passions of my life is defending the helpless. Throughout the years, many pre-born human beings have lost their lives due to their mother choosing death over life.

Most of these women don’t know what they’re doing. I am very involved in the pro-life movement and speak to activists quite often. When they show graphic images to post-abortive women, many of them are shocked to see the results. Some say that if they had seen those pictures prior to their abortion, they would not have decided to do it.

When one looks at the two largest religions in the world, we see that one is historical and one is not. What do I mean by that? Both can easily be traced from their origins in history but what I refer to is the scripture.

The Bible is a historical document. It starts with the Creation, goes through early civilization, the history of Abraham and the descendants of his Covenant. The Life of Moses is covered in detail as the Israelites leave Egypt and go into the Promised Land. After the conquest of the Holy Land, the Kingdom of Israel is set up and the Temple is built. More Prophets come until the time of Christ.  One cannot deny that it is a historical book.

Over the last 24 hours, we have heard endless talk of the Paris attacks. Many in the West ask themselves and their fellow countrymen what the future holds for their nation. They see Islam as an invading force imposing itself on the modern secular democratic western culture. Deep down, they know that a weak secular West won’t win against Islam. They are correct. It won’t.

Many Catholics study early Church history and Church fathers. There are many fathers that are worth reading. St. Augustine and St. Athanasius come to mind but there are many others. One that cannot be ignored is St. Ignatius of Antioch.

St. Ignatius of Antioch was the Bishop of Antioch in the early second century. He was martyred in Rome in about 107 AD and gives an early witness to many church doctrines. Doctrines such as the deity of Christ, monarchial ecclesiology, transubstantiation and others.

Scripture Study – No Liberals Allowed!

Scripture is extremely important in the life of every serious Catholic. Though the Church has always condemned private interpretation of scripture, it strongly encourages the reading of it.

Many in the Church have a warped view of scripture. While professing the Catholic faith, they will claim that the scriptures are full of contradictions, errors, forgeries and other problems. This is contradicted by the entire history of the Church. In Providentissimus Deus, Pope Leo XIII clearly states: “But it is absolutely wrong and forbidden, either to narrow inspiration to certain parts only of Holy Scripture, or to admit that the sacred writer has erred.”

In the modern era, many people sadly believe this. They have been led astray by liberal scholars such as Fr. Raymond Brown, Fr. Joseph Fitzmyer and others. It is very important for every Catholic to reject these men and their heretical scholarship.

Full of Grace?

Was Mary full of grace? Luke 1:28 is the key to solving that mystery. In fact, this verse gives us some evidence for the Immaculate Conception for the Blessed Virgin Mary. I should point out that more evidence than this would be needed to prove the doctrine in its entirety but this portion of scripture certainly helps. The verse reads:

“And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.”

The verse is very clear. The Blessed Virgin is full of grace. Regardless of this evidence, innovators deny that this verse says precisely what is does. They point out that the Douay Rheims translation is heavily based off of St. Jerome’s Latin Vulgate, which erred in translating this passage from the original Greek.

St. John of Damascus – The saint who wrote the first Christian treatise against Islam.

Ahmed Deedat is certainly the most influential muslim apologist in the last century. That doesn’t mean he’s the best as he certainly was not, but he’s the most influential and most popular. He talks in sound bites and relies on presentation as opposed to substance.

Deedat was born in 1918 in India, which was under British control at that time. He was an apologist for most of his life until he suffered a stroke in the 1990’s and was unable to continue in this profession. He died in 2005.

St. Francis de Sales – Bishop of Geneva and Apologist Extraordinaire!

Among the thousands of saints in the Catholic Church, only a select few have gone beyond that and have become Doctors of the Church. This list includes about three dozen people, both men and women.  One of these men is Saint Francis de Sales. He is one of my favorite saints and after reading his biography several years ago, I only wanted to read more and more of him.

St. Francis is one of the rare theologians who excels in all areas. Whether you’re looking for good theological treatises, homilies, spiritual insights or apologetics, his writing is top grade. This allowed him to do well in his two debates with Theodore de Beze in Geneva. Theodore de Beze was the top Protestant theologian in the world at the time and he was trounced twice by this brilliant Catholic Bishop.

A Brief History of Catholic Apologetics

Apologetics has always been part of the Catholic Church. It has spanned the 2,000 year history and has played a very important role in keeping the Church alive for that long. Century after century, heresy after heresy, the Church survives in large part due to the courage of many men and women who have defended Her. Many think this is a new phenomenon. It is not. Apologetics has always been employed by the faithful to combat heresies and false religions.
