Bring me the words of Jesus!

We know that Muslims claim to follow Jesus Christ.  Starting with Ahmed Deedat and many just parroting him, Muslims have requested the words of Jesus in determining Church doctrine.  Where did Jesus say….

This request is dishonest.  Why?  Because Muslims don’t adhere to the words of Jesus Christ in the gospels.  Jesus Christ says many things that a Muslim will not agree with.  Let me give one brief example.  In the Gospel of Mark we read the following:

He said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise.”

– Mark 9:31

Does the Muslim believe this?  Of course not.  Dozens of verses could be offered but I think that I’ve made my point.

Of course a Muslim believes that the only verifiable words of Jesus Christ are in the Quran.  In the Quran we have statements like the following:

And when Jesus son of Mary said, “O Children of Israel, I am Allah’s Messenger to you, confirming what preceded me of the Torah, and announcing good news of a messenger who will come after me, whose name is Ahmad.” But when he showed them the miracles, they said, “This is obvious sorcery.”

– Surah 61:6

Now, throughout the Quran we have statements made by Jesus that point to Muslim teachings.  However, all of the differences between the Christian and Muslim Jesus can’t be ironed out by the words of Jesus in the Quran alone.  The death of Christ is an example.

And for their saying, “We have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah.” In fact, they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but it appeared to them as if they did. Indeed, those who differ about him are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it, except the following of assumptions. Certainly, they did not kill him.

– Surah 4:157

This is the only verse in the Quran where it denies the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.  However, it comes from the words of the opponents of Jesus Christ and not Christ himself.

At this point if we were to turn the tables on the Muslim, we could ask them where does Jesus say that he didn’t die or wasn’t going to die?  We have no such verse.

“Peace is upon me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the Day I get resurrected alive.”

– Surah 19:33

These are the actual words of Jesus according to the Quran so if we take this verse in isolation it shows what the Christians have been saying is true.  Now, a Muslim can claim that a Christian doesn’t believe in the Quran so this is a bogus request.  We can then turn the tables on the Muslim and say that their requests for the words of Jesus(that they won’t believe anyway) are a farce.

As if the enemies of Jesus would claim that they had killed the Messiah! A Muslim must have no critical faculties, or wear blinkers, or remain ignorant of these verses. Mohammed's words (for they came from his mouth) have no credibility – unless you are a Muslim and trapped in a religion that would have anyone leaving it ostracised (at best) or put to death.

    • I had better point out for some who are not aware of it, but the enemies of Jesus that I refer to were His Jewish opponents, the very people who were longing for the promised Messiah.

    Hi Allan

What you mention refers to what you called “doomsday”or al-Qiyamah (arabic). In Islam this day has 3 phases,
Phase 1. Day of death ~ all humans will be die. it happened year after the death of the prophet Isa /Jesus
Phase 2. Resurrection day ~ all people will be alive (all humans from the time of the prophet Adam until the last person was die in phase 1) including you,me and the prophets and apostles.
Phase 3. Judgement day ~ all humans will be disciplined in practice.

Prophet Muhammad described Quranic verse 19:33 ( due to what Prophet Isa/Jesus told as in Quran)
“and the day I die, and the Day I get resurrected alive”

“and the day I die” refers to the actual day of the death of the prophet Jesus (that is, after the return of the prophet Jesus to the earth, killing what we called Dajjal),then he will marry, go to Mecca to perform Hajj and then die like other people. After prophet Isa die, doomsday would take place

“the Day I get resurrected alive” refers to the day of resurrection of all mankind for judgment including you and me, or what we called Yaumul hisab / kiamat / phase 2 of doomsday. No human being will escape from HIS judgment. Good deeds will be rewarded for heaven, provided that there is faith in his heart to acknowledge that God, the Eternal, Absolute; He begetteth not, nor is He begotten; And there is none like unto Him.

Thats our believe…For me, the verse is really contradic to what you mean.
