I recently tried a new debating technique with a Muslim and it worked quite well. I’m wondering if this is a unique situation. Now it has to be with a Muslim who is somewhat educated about Christianity which is almost none though internet apologists like Ijaz Admad would fall into this category. They especially need to know who St. Paul is and how he’s the standard fall guy for traditional Christianity. Since the Quran doesn’t explicitly name him as a Muslim, unlike Jesus, Mary, and the apostles, the blame for Christianity looking the way it does falls almost exclusively on him.
Every Christian who deals with Muslim apologists knows about the enormous double standards that they use. They don’t trust St. Paul. Because of that, we Christians try to prove our theology of the words of Christ. However, there is a problem with this. Muslims ignore the words of Christ just as much as they ignore the words of Paul. They think they’re being true to Jesus by ignoring Paul but they actually ignore Jesus just as much as they ignore Paul.
When we lead with the words of St. Paul we can show this to them right from the start. We should quote something to them from Romans, Galatians, or some other Pauline text. Then they’ll come out with their big statement that they don’t trust Paul. At this point kindly remind them that they distrust Jesus Christ as much as they distrust Paul. It would help if you had ten anti-Islamic verses from Christ memorized at this point.
I think the only doctrine that can’t be proven from the words of Christ is original sin. That comes from Romans 5 and 1 Corinthians 15. However, it also comes from the OT which Jesus Christ would have firmly accepted as scripture so it isn’t really a problem. Psalm 51 is one of the most important verses for Original Sin. However, any other doctrine and you’re good. The stage is set to expose their double standards. It worked for me recently. Try it out and let me know what you think.
I’m also continuing to do daily episodes of Quarantine Apologetics. The plan is to continue doing daily episodes as long as we’re under quarantine. I don’t know how much longer that we’ll be as I think everyone is getting pretty sick of this situation by now.
Either way, in this episode I compare the theology of Michael Coren and Ariana Grande. What does that include? Watch the video to find out!
