I have long planned on doing YouTube videos. I kept putting it off and off and off until I realized I just needed to start. I kept on planning but then I just decided to contact someone to get an initial interview in. I called Sam Shamoun who I’ve talked to before. I wanted to talk to Shamoun because he’s a pioneer in the field of Islamic apologetics. He’s been arguing against Islam for over 20 years.
The above interview is one hour long. I recommend giving it a listen. I’ve been using this website to encourage other Catholics on getting into apologetics against Islam. In the English language I’m not aware of any Catholic apologist who focuses primarily on Islam. If you go the Catholic Answers website there’s a section on Islam but it’s not a primary focus of theirs. Jimmy Akin, Tim Staples, and Trent Horn are great apologists but I’d hate to see what would happen if they went up against Shabir Ally or Adnan Rashid. There are a few Catholics in the counter-jihad movement but that movement is quite different.
I have some ideas for more interviews coming up so stay tuned. For those who think that this will replace the writing on this blog, there is no need to worry. I will continue to update this blog with regular content on the regular topics of which I write.
A little information about my 30 second introduction portion of the video. All of the video content comes from either my city or the surrounding area. The one exception is where it shows me driving on a bridge over a body of water. That was taken in 2017 when I was driving across a lake in North Dakota. I was driving from Minot to Bismarck and that lake is halfway in between the two cities. At the end of the intro it says “From the Canadian Prairies…” which is technically true. However, an hour west of my city is where the Rocky Mountains start. In fact, if you want to get a feel for what my area feels like, watch the show Tin Star on Amazon Prime. It’s filmed around where I live.
Please give me some feedback on how this interview went. I’m open to criticism. It’s my first video so I know for sure that I can do better. I will certainly be doing more in the future so your criticism will be taken to heart. I’m now a member of the YouTube community. Let’s see where this leads.
I look forward to watching this. Sam Shamoun is someone that I used to be very interested in indeed, and it was he that brought me to your excellent blog. I look forward to renewing my interest. He has a lot to offer, and it was thanks to Mr Shamoun that I started to understand how the Old Testament was so relevant to the New.
Enjoy!
He’s a good guy. I think he’s got a response to every objection ever made by a Muslim. The amount of research he’s done is incredible.
God bless,
Allan
Good video, both informative and enjoyable. One great “take-away” from this was the reminder to know your Bible. It is tempting to concentrate on the weaknesses of Islam’s sources when the answer lies with Christ and his teachings plus earlier scriptures.
I have been regretting for some time that my study of Islam was eating in to the time I ought to spend learning more about Christianity. This goes to show that I definitely need to spend more time on what is important and true.
It was nice to see Sam Shamoun in this setting. He is very impressive, with a clear, analytical and retentive mind, yet it is clear he does it not use his gifts to show off but to serve God.
It was also pleasing to see a good interchange between a Catholic and an evangelical. Inter-demoninational bad feeling is so depressing, and discord between us only helps the opponents of Christianity. Great to see that Sam Shamoun was both open and charitable. Fair play to you for standing up and providing a Catholic presence on YouTube.
That interview was a good start. I look forward to more of them. If I might venture a word of advice, I wouldn’t do these too often though otherwise these events might lose their focus and you already do great work with the written word.
All the best.
“Inter-demoninational” – sheesh! You know what I mean. I am prone to typing errors but in this occasion I am going to blame the very un-British heatwave for a lack of concentration. It reached 39 degrees C in parts of England today.
