We often hear from Muslims who live in the West(and outside of the West) that they believe in Jesus. They say that he is a great prophet of God. Whenever I talk with a Muslim and they say this, I always respond that if you believe in Jesus, you’ll believe in what he says.
I then start to quote from the lips of Jesus Christ. I show them that Jesus taught that his death would be salvific.
For the Son of man also is not come to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a redemption for many.
– Mark 10:45
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd giveth his life for his sheep.
– John 10:11
I then show them that he predicted his death and resurrection.
But he strictly charging them, commanded they should tell this to no man. Saying: The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the ancients and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day rise again.
– Luke 9:21-22
I also show them that he commanded his followers to baptize converts in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost.
Going therefore, teach ye all nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
– Matthew 28:19
I also explain to them that while Jesus initially sent his disciples only to the Jews, the Gospel message was ultimately meant for the whole world.
Amen, I say to you, wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, that also which she hath done, shall be told for a memorial of her.
– Mark 14:9
These are only a small sampling of quotes from Christ. A Muslim must believe in all of these if he says that he believes in Jesus Christ. Muslims don’t believe in the death of Jesus(let alone a salvific death), the resurrection of Jesus, Trinitarian baptism, or the fact that his message is meant for the whole world. We have to conclude that Muslims don’t believe in Jesus. If they did, they will have no problem confessing belief in these phrases recorded by his followers in the first century.
Are you a Muslim? Do you believe in Jesus? Why don’t you believe in what He said? The truth is, Jesus and Muhammad preached radically different messages. Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of everything promised in the Old Testament. This is the reason that the Christian Scriptures include the Old Testament along with the new. The Quran doesn’t have either book with them. This should trouble all those who follow the Quran. Muslims need to follow Jesus instead of the Quran.
