After my review of Michael Coren’s book I received an email from a supporter of mine. She said:
“By the way, I’m glad you are reviewing Michael Coren’s book so I don’t have to read it. I would be tempted, but: What hog wash! I still can’t believe that he can live with himself. I know there have been famous apostates over the centuries, but this is closer to home and I feel the pain of the Body of Christ.”
What she says about Coren is true. Canada’s once great Catholic apologist has completely collapsed on issues of faith and morals. On the other hand she makes a good point when she says: “I’m glad you are reviewing Michael Coren’s book so I don’t have to read it.”
I must admit that while I like writing, reading all of these anti-Christian books can get quite exhausting. As an apologist I don’t get to read everything I want but I read what I have to. I would rather be reading Saint biographies and going over the Summa Theologica every day but at this time in history, apologetics is needed more than ever. As the scripture says in Ecclesiastes Chapter 3, verse 1:
All things have their season, and in their times all things pass under heaven.
This is followed by a litany of readings. Verse 8 describes the situation that I feel is best for the present. It reads:
A time of love, and a time of hatred. A time of war, and a time of peace.
One thing that I can conclude from studying religion over the years can be summed up in the following phrase: Nothing is sacred to the enemies of God. We are not in a time of peace. It is a time for war. The Faith is being attacked from enemies constantly. We are outgunned on every front and things look rather dim.
My supporter is correct. I read Michael Coren’s homosexual propaganda so you don’t have to. I read the ravings of anti-Christian zealot Bart Ehrman so you don’t have to. I read the liberal “Christian” writings used by the opponents of our faith so you don’t have to. It isn’t fun having to read all of these books but I need to know what the enemy is saying. I also need to inform whom I can about these books.
I don’t review just any books that I feel like reading. I review books that Christians need to know about. This can be in either a positive or negative light. In the case of Brant Pitre and Stephanie Gray, they are positive, but in the case of Coren, it’s certainly negative.
I appreciate the feedback that my reader gave me. I encourage other readers to give feedback and recommendations as well. After all, this blog is not for me, but for others. I want to use my knowledge to help bring the lost to Christ and strengthen the faith of those who are already in His Church.
Hi Allan, thanks for the post. I appreciate this work and your love for the truth.
Thanks Bryan!
