Over the weekend, I was in my hometown for a pro-life banquet. One of my friends is a member of the organization that put on this event so he reserved a seat for me. These events are always fun. I saw a bunch of people who I hadn’t seen since this same banquet last year. I also saw a lot of pro-life politicians. One of them I hadn’t even seen in three years, naturally at the same banquet. Seeing a lot of old friends was fun, but what made the night amazing was seeing elite pro-life apologist Scott Klusendorf speak.
Many year ago, I read the book The Case For Life which was written by Klusendorf. In my opinion, it’s the number one book to read if you want to debate the abortion issue. I read the book many years ago and still use its arguments to this day.
In the last year, I’ve been really busy and haven’t had as much opportunity to do as much pro-life work as I’ve done in the past. Lord willing, I’ll get to do more in the future.
One thing that Klusendorf brought up that I’ve heard many times by pro-life apologists is that we need to show pro-choicers what an abortion is. He played us a video showing the results of abortion. I’ve seen similar videos in the past. They’re ugly, but that’s because abortion is ugly.
At the end of the night, I kept an eye out for Klusendorf. I wanted to track him down and meet him. Unfortunately being in a large hall of 800 people prevented me from finding him. It also didn’t help that there were so many other people that I wanted catch up with.
I got to talk to a lot of people. Many of them I hadn’t seen for a whole year. A lot of people had to leave early since they had to make the long three hour drive back to Calgary. Fortunately I got to stay the night in Edmonton since my parents live there.
At the end of the night, one of the girls mentioned that it was the last day of NHL regular season and that we should go to a bar and catch the rest of the Oilers game. I had to decline as I was already very tired, despite how much I wanted to watch some hockey.
I also got to tell a lot of people about Joseph de Maistre. Someone who reads this blog told me that she had started reading Maistre’s book about the Pope and wanted to discuss it sometime. I got a feeling that by the way she said it, she didn’t agree with Maistre. Oh well, that’ll make our discussion more interesting.
What a great night. I had so much fun, got to see friends that I hadn’t seen in a long time and I got to hear a hero speak. I suppose I’ll have to cross that name off the long list.
IMHO one of the cleverest pro-life videos that doesn’t rely on gruesomeness is this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vDQCv0yYaQ
What if you knew a young lady, abandoned by her boyfriend after he got her pregnant?
Would you recommend an abortion so that her future isn’t ruined by this burden?
Would you not defend a woman’s right to choose, rather than be punished with a baby?
If so, then congratulations! You just aborted Barack Obama!
(But of course, we all know that consistency is anathema to liberals.)
It appears that this is segregated seating splitting up women and men. Was that actually the case?
This video might have been. The banquet that I attended was not.
