Rod Dreher is an ex-Catholic who has converted to the Orthodox Church. He seems to have a love-hate relationship with the Church. He acts like our friend, but is often condescending and nasty. I think he let up for a brief period of time so that he could market The Benedict Option to us. Regardless of this, what has happened in the recent war of words have highlighted the flaw in Traditional Catholic circles.
The Crucifixion Of Our Lord Jesus Christ
I didn’t want to do a review of the debate between Adnan Rashid and Samuel Green on the crucifixion of Jesus Christ but this general overview will cover a lot of material in that debate. The crucifixion has always been a sticky point for Muslims. The Quran denies it but only in one place. There are multiple first century sources of the crucifixion of Jesus but Muslims go for the one mysterious statement in the Quran six centuries after the event.
Recently Muslim apologist Adnan Rashid debated Samuel Green on the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. My goal is not to review the debate but instead to point out an argument that the Muslims need to stop using for their own sake. They’ve been using this argument uncritically and I’m going to show why it has to be retired.

Many people say that Hanukkah is the Jewish Christmas. I suppose for secular Jews it essentially has become that but for religious Jews it has a deeper meaning. What is that deeper meaning? Tomorrow Jews around the world will begin celebrating this holiday. What is it about and where did it come from?
In the early 1990’s Dr. Michael Brown and Rabbi Tovia Singer debated on the radio. The debate didn’t end well for Rabbi Singer and therefore he never mentions it. You can’t find it anywhere on his website. Now, Dr. Brown makes the debate available on his website. This is a clear testimony to who won the debate. Why would you try to hide it if you had won? Rabbi Singer makes all of his other debates available.

I was recently watching a YouTube video. It was an apologetics lecture given by a prominent Orthodox Jewish Rabbi. In the question and answer period someone in the audience asked if they should accept support from Evangelicals who are hardcore Zionists. A legitimate question for the Jewish community I suppose. He said to accept their support but don’t go to events put on by CUFI and similar groups. He said that the state of Israel is there because God wants it to be there. I can only laugh at some statements.
I’ve been talking about Mohammed Hijab and Islam quite a bit lately so I thought I’d change it up and share some thoughts on some key issues. On Saturday I was at a function in my city. Most people at the function were from Eastern Europe, specifically Ukraine or Russia. It was quite an event. I had a good long discussion with an Orthodox priest that I knew. He knows that I’m Catholic and he told me that Catholics were hard to convert. He mentioned that it was easier to convert Episcopalians or another mainline Protestants. He mentioned that he’s only converted one Catholic in his whole life, and he’s not a young priest.

I’ve been talking about the Wood vs. Hijab debate for quite a while. The debate is certainly leaving its mark on social media. Basically everyone is talking about how Mohammed Hijab engaged in the straw man Olympics and was disrespectful to David Wood. Hijab was very open about this. He said that he was showing no respect to Wood because of the disrespect that Wood has shown to Islam.

I’ve noticed a new trend in Islamic apologetics. It’s clever, I’ll admit that. I believe it started with Adnan Rashid in a debate that he had with James White a few years ago. I could be wrong about that but regardless of the origins, it’s the argument that matters. This is applied to both the Scripture and the Church fathers. I want to deal with the Church fathers specifically.
