The Prophet Ezechiel
In a previous post, I talked about how reading scripture was an antidote to modernism. In that post, I focused on the New Testament but the Old Testament is full of gems as well. The book of Ezechiel is a great example. When one reads the first 15 chapters of Ezechiel, the idea that God is angry becomes very apparent. In Chapter 16 we read:

A popular doctrine in Protestantism is Eternal Security, sometimes referred to as Perseverance of the Saints. Perseverance of the Saints represents the P in TULIP, which Calvinists believe in. In Arminian circles, it is usually referred to as Eternal Security. It is also referred to as once saved, always saved. It should be pointed out that many protestants do not believe in this doctrine, among these are the Lutherans who were the original protestants.
Sacred Scripture
Several years ago I was reading an article by John Salza where he talks about the theology of St. Thomas Aquinas. He points out that St. Thomas is the antidote to modernism. What Salza says is very true but there is one problem, how many people study the writings of St. Thomas? To my knowledge, the only people who read St. Thomas are traditional seminarians and priests. Those people don’t need to be convinced that modernism is evil since they are already traditional.

Now that we’ve established that war is not completely forbidden by the teachings of Christ, we have to ask if George Bush’s military campaign in Iraq falls into this category. Melissa pointed out that non-Christians would be killed in this conflict. She is completely correct.

In response, many Christians have gone to Christian bookstores and purchased the latest and greatest books in refuting atheism. While this is a great tactic, you don’t need to look that hard for the answer. It is right in front of you in the pages of Scripture.

The first is those who say that we need to move beyond the Bible because it’s such an archaic document which endorses slavery, oppression of women and other things. Since the Church has “moved beyond” those ideas, it can certainly make room for homosexual marriage.

Over a year ago, I was doing some pro-life work back in my hometown. I engaged a woman in conversation about pro-life issues while holding a picture of an aborted fetus. She claimed that she was a practicing Catholic and a mother of four. She then said that she was pro-abortion and said that the Church needed to change. When I heard this I responded in a way that I shouldn’t have. I should have focused on the humanity of the unborn child and universal human rights but I decided to get into a religious debate. Though that wasn’t the time to do it, I will discuss this topic here.

With over a billion muslims in the world today, it is not uncommon to come across muslims to dialogue with. I have been to two muslim countries as well as muslim majority regions of other countries. Islamic apologetics is a big field but one does not need to study it in any great depth to know the most important issue in talking with them. In fact, most professional apologists don’t know this trick.
Growing up in Canada, there is a lot of cultural identity. Most of these cultures are European because most Canadians are of European descent. Canada has developed somewhat of a cultural identity itself but at the same time there is no such thing as a Canadian last name. The same is true for America.
