The Christian says that Muhammad is not in the Bible. The Jew says Jesus is not in the OT. Are these even claims?

Isaiah 53 from the Isaiah scroll found in the Qumran cave. The scroll is 100 years older than Jesus and it is the Greatest Prophecy fulfilled in human history.

Because of Surah 7:157, Muslims are forced to find Muhammad in the Torah and the Gospels.  I hate to spoil it for my readers but let me confidently tell you the he’s nowhere to be found in either of those texts.  I personally think deep down that most Muslims know this but only the apologists try to fit this square peg into a round hole.

Islamic apologists like to say Muhammad in the Torah and the Gospels is no different than Christians finding Jesus in the Old Testament.  Personally I find this laughable.  The two are not even close.  They often say that if you use the same standards for Jesus in the Old Testament, you’ll find Muhammad in the Torah and the Gospels.

I disagree for three main reasons.

The first reason is that prophecies are recorded in our sacred text.  When Jesus is on the cross, he points his followers to Psalm 22.  In Acts 8, the Ethiopian Eunuch was reading Isaiah 53 and was told by Philip that the one talked about in the passage was Jesus Christ.  The Quran mentions no fulfillment of any specific passages or prophecies in the Torah or the Gospels.  In Acts 3:22, the apostles recognized Christ as the Prophet in Deuteronomy 18.  When Muhammad encountered Jews, they didn’t apply the verse to him, even if they became a follower.  We have fulfilled prophecy in the pages of the New Testament.

The second reason is that we don’t have to accuse the text of corruption.  When a Christian debates a Jew, we have to deal with the Old Testament as it is.  We can’t say that anything that disagrees with Jesus in a passage is corrupted.  If anyone watches the well known apologist Shabir Ally try to deal with the Paraclete passages in John 14 through 16, they’ll quickly see that he can’t deal with the text as it is.  He has to assume corruption through and through.  Anything that disqualifies Muhammad is chucked while everything that can be applied to him is original.  How convenient.

The third reason is that we’re not afraid of this argument.  What does that mean?  Yes, the Jew will say Jesus is not in the Old Testament(and he certainly won’t believe Muhammad is there either) and the Christian will say Muhammad is not in the Bible.  The difference is that we’re bold and willing to run the risk and have the New Testament and Old Testament scriptures in our Bible so people can decide for themselves.  We have absolutely nothing to hide.  When Muslims hand out the Quran to people, it’s just a Quran.  There is no Torah, Gospel, Old Testament or New Testament.  Is Jesus prophesied in the Old Testament?  We have it in our Bibles so people can see for themselves.  We’re not afraid of anything.

When evaluating the case, no double standards are employed when a Christian says that Jesus is found in the Old Testament and Muhammad is not found in the Bible.  We’re on very solid ground.  The Muslim on the other hand is faced with these three objections which in my opinion demote the Muslim claim of Muhammad in the Bible to extremely special pleading.
